This website evolved from a blog that I set up for students taking my courses in Singapore and Southeast Asian Literatures in English at the National University of Singapore. Since I’ve now left NUS as part of a series of life transitions, I’ve also expanded it into a personal website, with information about my scholarship and other writings, as well as a contact email address — philip@pulauujong.org. I’ll do basic maintenance on the site regularly, and also post from time to the blog section. Students blog posts are now preserved in the Students’ Archive section of the site.
The site also serves as a repository for some Singapore Literature resources that I’d digitized before, and migrated from previous sites. At the moment these are:
- Wang Gungwu, Pulse — an important pioneering English-language poetry collection from Malaya written in 1950
- Stories from The Straits Chinese Magazine — some of the best stories written in English in the period 1897-1907
